This is a new role within the Security Team, to specifically support the roll out, development and ongoing administration of the SafeZone and to provide additional support in the operation and administration of all security systems as used by the physical security team. SafeZone is a mobile application which allows King’s staff and students to have quick and easy way to access safety, security and wellbeing support both on campus and in other settings (such as while lone working off campus).

The postholder will become the subject matter expert on the capabilities of the SafeZone system and will be the key administrator of the system whilst identifying systems-based solutions to a range of operational challenges with a view to driving maximum usage from the product.

The role will also provide key support to the Head of Security through the provision of open-source research, wider security systems support and assist in responding to sensitive Student and Staff Welfare checks and investigations.

The role requires project experience, excellent ability to understand systems and their potential, problem-solving skills and experience of working with external and internal stakeholders at all levels. The ability to demonstrate initiative in how best to utilise the available information and tools to provide practical operational solutions is also important.

It is envisaged that this post will also be a champion for the increased use of SafeZone and will organise and support the delivery of promotion of the system to help engage the King’s Community and build usage so strong interpersonal skills will be essential.

This post will be offered on a permanent contract   

This is a full-time  post – 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

To ensure, through effective administration and stakeholder engagement that King’s maximises the potential of Safe Zone, including but not limited to:

  • Become a system expert on the application utilising all information available from the supplier 
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Systems (Physical Environment) team to implement all administration of the system and support all user requests 
  • Horizon scanning to maintain knowledge of how the  potential of the product, its’ future developments, and other complementary technology may be leveraged to benefit King’s.  
  • Maintain awareness of how other organisations, especially in the HE sector are using the SafeZone technology to identify best practice and identify how King’s may use this to best effect going forward. Create and evolve process maps to aid the resourcing team and stakeholders have confidence in the system and supporting processes.
  • Be the super user of the system  
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Systems (Physical Environment) team to monitor system performance, roll out upgrades  and support all users with the creation and administration of groups and permissions 
  • Create reports that support operational processes and provide stakeholders with required metrics  
  • Conduct training of other users on the use of Safe Zone 
  • Act as the key point of contact for CriticalArc  
  • Working with the departmental Data Analyst to develop a usage profile which provides accurate and timely trend analysis and metrics to help understand demand and identify emerging issues.   
  • Ensure full compliance with all College policies with specific regard to data compliance.
  • Optimise user engagement through the planning and promotion of the system as a safety solution including but not limited to organising stalls at welcome events, attending student and staff events including Open Days; producing online content for social media 
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Facilities (Cleaning and Security Services) regarding wider marketing of the system 
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholder and suppliers as required. Within the scope of the role, ensure the highest level of customer service are provide to the CSS Management Team, employees and others across the university, championing King’s values and commitments at all times. 
  • Use excellent online research skills to provide open source information as required by the Head or Deputy Head of Security 
  • Develop a good working knowledge of other King’s security systems including CCTV, Access Control, and other, as required to enhance Safety and welfare support.

Skills, knowledge, and experience 

Essential criteria

  1. Relevant degree or Equivalent Experience 
  2. Advanced IT skills using MS Office, particularly MS Excel. 
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  4. Experience of being an approachable subject matter expert on a system or process and driving up engagement/usage  
  5. Understanding of data quality and data Governance issues, including GDPR. 
  6. Experience of communicating effectively with, and influencing a range of audiences and stakeholders 
  7. Ability to use initiative and develop innovative approaches 
  8. Ability to manage own workload and work flexibly with minimal supervision 
  9. A demonstrable passion for customer focused solutions. 
  10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of developing Systems/applications 
  2. Experience of using Safezone. 
  3. Experience of security industry systems
