About the Role

This is a Teaching Specialist academic position within the Melbourne Law School Clinics program at Melbourne Law School. The successful applicant will work closely with the Director of MLS Clinics, to support the work of MLS Clinics including coordinating and teaching the JD subject Public Interest Law Clinic (PILC). The successful applicant will also contribute to developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including PILC partner organisations, and assist with public interest projects, events and communications

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and teaching the JD elective subject Public Interest Law Clinic
  • Teaching into the JD elective subject Legal Internship, or coordinating and/or teaching other subjects as agreed
  • Assisting the Director of the Melbourne Law School Clinics with teaching and supporting clinical legal education

Who We Are Looking For

You should have the potential to make a valuable contribution to clinical teaching and learning. Additionally, you should demonstrate the capability to contribute to the development of the clinic program by engaging in curriculum development, nurturing relationships with clinic partners, and participating in course design. Legal practice experience and strong communication, organizational, and project management skills are also essential.

You will also have:

  • A good graduate degree in law. In exceptional circumstances a person with an undergraduate law degree may be considered for this role where they have very considerable practical experience to supplement that degree;
  • Appropriate legal practice experience;
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team;
  • Previous experience of clinical legal education and/or public interest law and/or legal practice.

This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.
